“Hope Restored Home”
Jackson, MI
It all begins with an idea. Then it takes hard work and commitment to make the change. Maybe you want to change the lifestyle you have been living in? Maybe you want to be a better father and a better Role model? Whatever it is, here in our program we will get you on the right track and help you make the changes your children and community deserve!
What led me to start this program and make the changes in my life.
My testimony:
My name is Lloyd McCormick. Currently I operate and manage two businesses and a consulting firm here in Jackson, MI. I am the current Executive Director of Bibles & Burgers charity, and my heart is for this program. I am married with six beautiful children and an amazing wife. We manage numerous properties and help house many men and youth we bring through our programs.
My life was not always successful. In my past I was incarcerated in state prison for violence, drugs, and many mistakes I made. Upon my incarceration I lost my children for 2 years and had to rebuild those relationships and learn proper parenting skills for healthy reunification with my children after all the hurt I caused them. We now have wonderful relationships, and I offer the knowledge through this program to help rebuild damaged homes caused by fathers’ negligence and mistakes.
I have built a model that I know is successful and has reunified families in the last 3 years. I have personally experienced success in my own life and want to bring this to more fathers in the community.
Unique thing about our ministry houses?
The fathers do all the work on remodeling. They all invest and do their part to give back to the community and “Pay it Forward”.
BEFORE and AFTER Photo’s
Bibles & Burgers and Resurrection Resources are currently in a capitol campaign to turn a property at downtown into a transitional house for single dads who are homeless and trying to change their lives. The goal of the property will be to house the fathers for a 3-to-6-month period to help them get back on their feet. We will offer employment through one of the ministries to compensate for housing expenses. We have a local network of resources and food pantries to also assist with food and meals to save on expenses. The house is only one block from the interfaith shelter who we also partner with. The team there provides 3 meals a day to those in the community as well.
Bibles & Burgers will have board member Toby Hill on the property overseeing the day-to-day operations. Toby is currently employed at JPS Parkside as part of the security team and has a phenomenal record for maintaining peace in our local school district and keeping our students safe. Toby will live on sight to assure no drugs, alcohol, or weapons are in the house. He will also make sure our residents are maintaining employment and keeping on their case plan we will assign to them.
This location will be a transitional house and support group meeting place. When a Father falls on hard times, we want to come along side of them and give them a hand up not a handout. We will set a limited amount of time for them to stay and achieve the goals they need to set in place for self-sustainability. Upon achieving these goals and providing resources to help, we will connect them with our partners at Jackson Housing commission, community action agency, or the Jackson Landlord association to help them transition to permanent housing along with permanent employment through our local factory and small business partners.
Currently we have dumpsters delivered and work in progress. It will be an extensive process to bring the house up to city code. The house will require flooring, drywall work, Painting (interior and exterior), Driveway, furnace, and Air conditioning along with some new appliances. A rough estimate to get us started will be about $25,000.00. Bibles & Burgers started with our budget of $10,000.00 from Resurrection Resources who is currently raising funds through local work they are performing in the community. As executive director of both ministries and a background in General contracting and construction I will be able to limit a lot of our expenses through our local volunteers along with allowing the fathers to trade work for time they receive to stay at the house.
We want the men we help to feel like family to us. Our goal is self-sustainability, life changes, and a lifelong commitment to bettering their future along with their community. We are asking for you to partner with us and help these families find their purpose in life here in Jackson.
What the program teaches.
Objective:
Through our training model, we educate fathers on the 4 different types of parenting common in our culture today. We offer video presentations, support groups, one-on-one consultation, employment, and any guidance needed to help fathers be better educated on proper parenting skills and knowledge through our 6-week program. The goal is self-sustainability, proper roles the father should play in the child’s developmental stages, Co- parenting, and a safe place for fathers to come to learn and talk about the daily struggles they face as a parent. We want to offer a place for dads to have resources and help in any struggle they may be going through.
Determining your parenting style: (4 types)
Permissive- Parent who is kind, loving and connected but does not have any expectations or restrict what their child does.
Disengaged- Parent who doesn’t expect much and doesn’t spend personal time or pay attention to the child.
Authoritarian- A parent who wants obedience and compliance without discussion.
Authoritative – (Scientifically proven the best way of parenting) A Parent with high expectations for the child but is also responsive and loving to the child’s emotional needs.
Employment and Volunteering
We partner with numerous non-profits and businesses to help lead our fathers to employment or any type of work that can help them and their families prosper. As a business owner myself, we help provide employment for many of the fathers in our programs. We offer food services jobs, landscaping, lawn mowing, construction, and many general labor opportunities as they open through the networks of employers we work with.

Devin’s Story
Devin’s Story
I want you to meet Devin. Coming into our program, Devin struggled with addiction, homelessness, and incarceration. In the winter before finding us he nearly froze to death in a garage after becoming homeless. He had warrants for his arrest due to outstanding child support and past mistakes. He felt like all hope was lost.
After 6 weeks in the program and a lot of hard work and dedication Devin helped himself through his addiction. Devin saved enough to pay for half of his past due child support so we had him volunteering and sponsored the other half to get his warrants lifted . Devin worked hard for the help we gave him. He has been sober over a year now and free from drugs. Here he is being re-united for the first time with his daughter after nearly a year of being seen unfit to have rights. Devin now has his own place, continues to work full time, and helps with his daughter’s needs. He has learned skills in co-parenting with her mother in healthy, good ways that will lead to his daughter’s success. Devin still volunteers for our ministry and stays in touch on how he can help inspire and change men who face the same struggles that he overcame.

A $100 Incentive is provided if all classes are completed!
Memphis’s story
Close to 3 years ago I found Memphis at the bottom of a bottle sleeping outside in front of Greenwood food pantry homeless. Memphis had been to prison numerous times, grew up around gangs and gang violence. He knew no good way of life. His mother and only family he had here died from cancer the year before, so he was alone, cold, hurting and felt like his life had no purpose. I told him to take a ride with me and we stopped and got a cheeseburger of all things. Funny how food always opens a door to show someone you care (Hince the name “Bibles & Burgers”). We made our way to a park where we talked for 2 hours, prayed together and conversed about our failures, incarceration, and years of pain and tragedy we endured as children. It would take me hours to explain what we have been through over 3 years. He was my inspiration to start this program, along with Birth line pregnancy center. The pictures above show his transformation. Memphis is cooking and serving his community. He now has his own apartment, works 50-60 hours a week, bought himself a new vehicle, influences not just his own kids to do the right thing, but also every child and father he has the opportunity to be around in our community. This program has helped Memphis achieve many lifetime goals he never thought he could. He now leads classes with Devin, got his driver’s license, volunteers and serves anytime he has the opportunity, and has just completely transformed his life. Memphis is my inspiration to keep this program going!
